The general requirements
of a disinfectant:
1. It should have long lasting anti-microbial
activity in low concentrations (bactericidal,
fungicidal, virucidal and sporicidal) and not
be affected by temperature and/or contamination
of the working solution.
2. All disinfectants are divided into 4 classes
of toxicity within the Russian medical sector:
Class 2 requires that personal protective equipment
(breathing apparatus, goggles) be worn and there
should be patient presence during application.
Class 3 disinfectants can be used without any
personal protective equipment but there should
be no patient presence during application. Class
4 disinfectants can be used without any personal
protective equipment and patient presence is
allowed.
3. The chemical properties of the disinfectant
should: have a sufficient quantity of active
ingredient, be rapidly dissolved in water, be
stable for 3-5 years – working solution stability
for several hours, must not be corrosive, must
not damage or decolour fabric, wallpaper, varnished
or synthetic surfaces and should be biodegradable.
It is preferable that besides antimicrobial
action, the product also has additional properties:
detergent effect, deodorising and break down
of waste foods. Teflex has all these properties
and complies with the safety class regulations,
falling within Class 4.
